Bassoon opened in May 2011 in Corinthia Hotel London, formerly the Metropole Hotel. A music bar for the next generation, the space achieves both theatre and intimacy with melodic references to a heady 20s jazz heritage complemented by elegant art deco details.
Inspired by a 1920s music room, the design features textured eau de nil shagreen walls, eclectic bespoke furniture in bold ochre, rich chocolate and greys and jazz age William H. Johnson paintings.
“Bassoon was conceived to explore the alignment of design and music, incorporating symmetry, balance and harmony as subliminal reminders of how the environment influences us, ” says Simon Rawlings, Creative Director, David Collins Studio.
Articulated with characteristic David Collins Studio wit, these parallels are subtly realized through textured sound waves on the ceiling and find their centerpiece in the sculpted 20-foot grand piano that forms the bar.
